I loved Birdy's first LP. Even though it was mostly covers, it really piqued my interest w/ its downtrodden, simpler, piano-centric approach. So I had very high expectations for her sophomore release. It appears to be aiming for a broader audience, and is far more pop friendly than her last. It makes sense to me she'd take this route, but I don't know if I'd recommend this one as enthusiastically. It's not a matter of her talent, b/c she clearly has it. Although there are lyrical cliches and some very dated electronic drum/digital sounds, this album still works. I simply skip the filler tracks and focus on the deeper, more serious ones. I doubt pop culture will embrace her on a large scale, so depending on your musical tastes your mileage may vary.
